Having read many of LJ Ross’s DCI Ryan books, The Rock did not disappoint. It is entertaining and gives you what you expect from the characters in previous books, but it also tackles some very serious subjects.

The Rock starts with a group of women as they are trafficked to the UK. They’re in a boat shipwrecked during a terrible storm, resulting in the death of one woman who washes up on the beach, alerting DCI Ryan and his team to their plight.

We are immediately drawn into the terrible lives and experiences of the characters, and the evil gang which is transporting them.

Our hero and his team, DCI Ryan and co, get on the case and the story gradually unfolds with all sorts of twists and turns that we have come to expect from LJ Ross.

The book is in a series of entertaining mysteries (this is book 18) with lots of emotion, some humour and romance. It can be read as a stand alone, but most mystery lovers would want to start at the beginning.

Another enjoyable read with our handsome detective and his heart of gold.
