Or so they say, but I know I often do.

Run for the Shadows has a new cover. The previous one, although professionally designed didn’t seem to catch the readers’ interest. I much prefer this one and I’m hoping my readers do too.

This domestic noir/suspense is written as Ella Drummond and is set during three heatwaves in 1976, 1989, 2003 in a village in Northern France.

Sera has never known her father and has learnt not to ask her mother questions about him. She is curious why her English mother loathes one of their neighbours, Hazel, another English woman. She’s certain they were friends at some point, but has no idea what happened to turn them against each other. Hazel and her family disappear in 1989 and now there’s a new tenant at their farm, Henri, a mysterious man with scars on one side of his body. Someone doesn’t want him living in their village and sets fire to his barn. Sera ignores the local gossip about him and determines to befriend him.

Who is Henri? Where has he come from and, more importantly to Sera, why has he chosen this village?
