Always with You follows both mother and daughter as they backpack through Australia in two different decades. It starts in the UK with daughter, Libby in 2017 following the death of her mother. Not surprisingly she is struggling to come to terms with her death and this is further complicated by the fact she never knew who her father is.
The mother’s story looks back to 1994 as she back-packed through Australia, a time of self-discovery and new friends. Daughter, Libby, tries to follow in her footsteps but on her own personal journey of growth and enlightenment.
In many ways, for the first half of this book their stories and voices are similar – two young women travelling through Australia, but it is the second half that the narrative comes alive and the mystery deepens. The writer has clearly travelled through Australia herself as the descriptions and events are very evocative, with a host of interesting characters and observations. As with any good story, there’s a twist at the end which catches you by surprise.
